Kohala ‘Āina Festival
~ Big Island, Hawaii, November 8, 2014 ~
The Kohala ‘Āina Festival marks the beginning of the Makahiki season on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi ~ It’s a celebration of local harvest, young farmers, and the growing movement for island-wide organic food sovereignty. This year’s festival featured a line up of international and local musicians including Nahko, Ooklah The Moc, Cas Hayley, Tubby Love, Kaahele and the Isness, DJ Conscious Riddims and other special guests ~ Plus Hula and African Dance ~ Permaculture Convergence with workshops in Soil Fertility, Beekeeping, Seed Saving, Plant Medicine, Community Design, and Hawaiʻian Culture ~ The first ever Young Farmer’s Delegation ~ 100% Locally Grown Hawaiʻian Feast ~ and a Keiki Tent with fun activities for all ages! The Kohala ‘Āina Festival is an annual harvest celebration and fundraiser to support the Hawaiʻi Institute of Pacific Agriculture. 100% of proceeds support their youth education programs, residential farmer trainings and community education projects island-wide.
